This assignment gave me an excuse to clean up a montage I took last August while at the Kennedy Space Center for the Juno Tweetup. This is the inside of the VAB – the Vehicle Assembly Building. This gigantic building is where all of the last 40+ years of manned US Spacecraft were assembled, basically all Apollo and STS vehicles.
The montage was created using the “You’ve Gotta See This” app from Boinx software on my iPhone. As I understand it, the app uses the accelerometers in the iPhone to position images inside of an imaginary sphere based on where you point the phone. It does most of the hard work of placing images for you!
The image needed a little work – cropping and exposure adjustment. The building itself is full of spotlights and brightly lit areas, as well as some dark spots where details dissapear. I could probably have fixed some of the problems with burning and dodging tools in Photoshop, but the limited exposure tools in iPhoto did a fairly good job.
